"There also stands the gloomy house of Night; ghastly clouds shroud it in darkness.
Before it Atlas stands erect and on his head and unwearying arms firmly supports
the broad sky, where Night and Day cross a bronze theshold and then come close
and greet each other." (Hesiod, Theogony, 744 ff.)

darkness wrapped around the house of night like a warm blanket. if there was anything to do...it wasn't here. lysha put down her bag underneath the tree and looked up. she glared. a nightmare had jolted her awake a few hours ago and it was still ringing in her ears. now she felt paranoid. lysha stepped over the cement and looked at her watch uncertainly. fifteen minutes until classes begun. and fifteen minutes to relax and forget everything that was going on.
trees created dark shadows on the ground and lysha glared at them. the only thing that was comforting was the moon and stars. lysha was grateful that nyx was still there to help. astree sidled in through the trees and made herself comfortable next to lysha. lysha patted the cat but a sudden movement made astree bolt away from the fledgling. she cussed under her breath and stood up. she pushed away some leaves and revealed someone she didn't want to see.
as she turned around, he grabbed her wrist and lysha pulled away and pushed him back. he made a move again but she snarled angrily. he backed away from her and lysha made a run for it. today was not her day. first the nightmare and now him. disturbia...

LJ was awake surprisingly early. Normally she was at least 15 minutes late for class, but today a jilting phone call from her Aunt woke her up an hour early. She tried to fall back asleep to no avail and decided that a walk was probably the best thing to clear her mind. She walked along the familiar pathways of the House of Night and let her feet guide her with Rufio trotting his fat-self along at her ankles.
She soon found herself walking the familiar paths of the courtyard. Relaxing under the moon was just what she needed. LJ was looking up at the gifted moon, saying a silent prayer to her beloved Nyx and not really paying much attention to what was in front of her. She had just stepped off the path when she ran face first into someone.
"Ah, sorry," She yelped as she fell backwards and used her hands to catch herself as she hit the ground, narrowly missing Rufio who half-meowed half-barked at her angrily.

As Lysha ran, she found herself face-to-face with a sixth former. She blinked and shook her head to get the confusion out.
"Ah sorry," the girl yelped.
"It's okay," Lysha replied and smiled. Her eyes went to the cat next to the girl and she laughed softly for an unknown reason. The moon disappeared behind a cloud for a few seconds and reappeared. Lysha's laughter faded. She smiled apologetically at the girl. Lysha's thoughts wavered as she thought of the guy she was running away from. Was he still waiting for her? This was something that was on the bottom of the list of things that she wanted. Lysha put her disturbing thoughts away and concentrated on what was going on.
The girl was definitely a sixth former. Lysha didn't need to look at her jumper to find out what year she was in. The more time you spent at the House of Night, the more you knew. Seeing as they were both here and they seemed like there was nothing to do, Lysha decided to converse with the girl.

The night was really beautiful. Akito had to admit it. It was amazing, stupifying, even. She loved the moon and the stars. She wondered if she should write home sometime. To one of her cousins that actually cared. But her mother would probably get the mail first, and throw it away or something. She sighed to herself and looked up at the sky in time to see a bird fluttering. It landed on a tree branch. She very carefully made her way to the tree, and reached up. Yes! She could reach it. Slowly, she put her finger just at the bird's feet. At first, it didn't go to her hand, and she felt dismay. Then it timidly hopped on.
Akito smiled despite herself and whistled very quietly as she lowered her hand to in front of her face. She stroked the bird's feathers lightly, and actually talked to the animals. An affinity for a connection with birds she had not. She simply had always, always been good with them.
She didn't mean to, but she walked right at the two girls who were talking with each other. She nearly ran into one of them. She jumped back in surprise, and the bird flew away.
"Damn," she muttered, glaring downward as the beautiful creature fluttered off. She looked up at the two girls through her long bangs and eyelashes. She was shorter than both of them, and younger. "S-sorry," she stammered. It was unlike herself, but she had become more timid, more anxious since her new life. You could barely say she was stable, sanity-wise.

LJ pushed herself up off the ground and back onto her feet as she smiled back at the fifth former. She couldn't be positive but it looked as if something was on the girl's mind. It then occured to LJ that the girl has been running when LJ had collided with her.
"So why are you in the courtyard?"
LJ laughed lightly, "Apparently just busting me arse." She glanced down at Rufio who was still grumbling at her and picked up the fat black cat and put him on her shoulder. "Actually I was looking for a distraction," She used her jeans to wipe the dirt from her hands and extended one to the girl. "I'm Leah-Jean, but you can call me LJ. Are you all right? You look as if you've seen a ghost,"
It was as her hand was extended that she heard the faint murmuring of the tiniest third former she'd ever seen and looked just in time to watch the girl almost run into her.

[[nawh we don't mind ]]
"Apparently just busting me arse," the sixth former replied. "Actually I was looking for a distraction. I'm Leah-Jean, but you can call me LJ. Are you all right? You look as if you've seen a ghost."
Lysha nodded and smiled. A total lie. She wasn't all right at all. She was annoyed, angry and slightly scared. But Lysha kept a perfect pokerface. She didn't betray her true feelings so she lied instead. Her Mark tingled slightly. Lysha noticed that the girl was waiting for a reply so she decided to introduce herself.
"Nice to meet you, LJ. I'm Lysha. You can call me Lee. And yeah I'm fine..." she said softly. "At least I think I'm fine," she added. A soft sound made her turn around and she found herself looking at a third former. The girl looked timid and shy. The girl was stammering and she looked nervous, as if LJ and herself were possible dangers towards her. Lysha smiled warmly at the third former.
"Oh hey," she said, smiling. "It's okay. We're all wanderers here." Lysha looked at her watch. Ten minutes. How lovely.

Of course, Akito was uncomfortable. She had a sort of stereotype of women in her head, based off of how her mother had always been. Beautiful with long hair. Incredibly cruel. So the kind tone of Lysha's voice had obviously shocked her, especially when she looked at her wide-eyed, her orbs swimming with something similar to confusion. Though, she knew she shouldn't judge people like that, it just seemed like that's how women were. She internally kicked herself. She had to quit letting her mother run her life. Now, Ren wasn't even trying and everything was getting messed up in Akito's head. She shook her head vigorously, her short hair whipping at her face. Yes, she looked strange. Did she care? Not right now. She had to get these thoughts out of her head! She replaced her surprised expression with a tiny, cautious smile. Her coral-colored lips were only slightly upturned. She watched both of the girls almost warily with her ocean-like eyes.
"Thanks," she said quietly. "I know of a few people who would be irritated if I interrupted their conversation like that..."
Not so much a few people as one person. Augh, she was thinking about her mother again! She was so irritated with herself.
"A-anyway, I'm Akito. You?"
This was probably the first time she'd introduced herself without being asked. She sounded a little awkward.

LJ almost wanted to laugh at the tiny girl but instead just smiled, "It's okay. It's not a problem. I'm Leah-Jean. Nice to know you." She inclined her head in a slight nod.
LJ then turned her attention back to Lee and watched as she glanced at her watch. "Anxious to get to class? I was thinking of extending my distraction far past the actual time for class, it's Friday, nothing important is happening. Care to join me?" She asked. "You can as well if you'd like," She added the Akito.

Akito smiled again, this time it wasn't as cautious and forced. The smile was small, but obviously she was glad that she'd been invited. She wasn't good at socializing, and, well, she didn't think of herself as a person people would want to be around. So being told she could tag along was slightly helpful to her low self-esteem. Ever since that one meeting with Matthew, she'd been trying harder. Quite a few people at this school seemed fairly nice, anyway. "Thanks," she mumbled. She'd kind of been planning to skip classes today. Yes, she was a studious person. Did she like sitting still through classes all day? No. Sure, these classes were definitely different from the old ones. There were some physical things too, like fencing. But that scared her, to be honest. Not that she'd ever say that. She figured she'd probably lose her temper and hurt someone. That, or she would get hurt. Usually she didn't care as much that she hurt someone else. She could be selfish at times. But with this Change going on, things were made different. Ugh, it was so hard to explain, even to herself.
